Recently, China’s first passenger operation test of “Permanent Magnet Subway” was held by China Association of Metros in Changsha. It is the first subway in China fully equipped with permanent magnet traction system, which is developed by CRRC Times Electric. By Dec 31st, 2016, it had conducted passenger operation for over 60,000 km, with all the judges proving the permanent magnet traction system stable, reliable and capable of handling passenger transportation. This symbolizes that the urban rail transportation in China has taken another solid step towards realizing the dream of the “Era of Permanent Magnet Traction”.

China’s first “Permanent Magnet Subway” is based on fully independent R&D, manufacturing and operation. According to statistics, permanent magnet traction system saves up to 30% of energy. One set of “Permanent Magnet Subway” reduces the emission of 1000-kilo of carbon dioxide and 3-kilo of sulfur dioxide every day.

While urban rail traction energy consumption reaches 50% of the total, permanent magnet traction system’s higher energy consumption efficiency, lower weight, and lower life cycle cost have been attracting key attention from subway operators, and is commonly regarded as the traction system for rail locomotives of the next generation. Until now, a number of subway operators from Beijing, Tianjin, Xia’men, Guiyang, etc., have expressed their strong cooperation intentions to introduce the “Permanent Magnet Subway” as soon as possible, so as to make active contribution to the local energy conservation and emission reduction.
